China Southern Power Grid lands street lighting PPP project

China Southern Power Grid Comprehensive Energy Limited and the Chinese local government of Kaili City has signed an agreement to develop the LED lighting retrofit PPP project.

This will be the first PPP project in China in the lighting field. The project involves the renovation of 30,000 streetlamps and 100,000 landscape lamps.

The deal worth approximately RMB1 billion (US$163 million).

The new LED lighting is expected to reduce power consumption. The new landscape lighting design will be focused on Kaili's scenic landmarks and tourist attraction.

Kaili is a county-level city under the administration in southeastern Guizhou province. The city has a population of about 0.5 million inhabitants.

We have recently reported that the Brazilian city of Caraguatatuba had awarded the city's street lighting PPP project. The concession includes the project design, implementation, expansion, modernization, operation and maintenance of public lighting installations in the city, and responsibility of energy consumption.
