Chilean consortium offers lowest bid for El Melon tunnel concession

The Ministry of Public Works in Chile, in a public ceremony, has opened the seven economic offers from the groups and companies interested in the tender process for El Melon tunnel expansion project in Chile's central Valparaiso region.

The group Belfi Conpax Aura presented an offer for about US$110 million, which was below other economic proposals. The offer was also a 25% lower than the maximum stated in the bidding.

The next step consists in the review and analysis of the process and bids submitted to proceed with the final award of the concession.

The concession includes the construction, maintenance and operation of the tunnel works that will allow an increase in capacity on the route and improve the safety standard of the current road.

The project was the first public works project granted in Chile as a private concession.
