Chile to open prequalification for US$2.4 billion programme of hospital concessions this month

The government of Chile, through the Ministry of Public Works, is inviting companies to register to participate in tenders for a number of hospital concessions located throughout the country that constitute the Second Programme of Concessions of Health Facilities.

The programme concerns eighteen concessions with a total investment of over US$2.4 billion. The selected concessionaires will construct, equip and maintain the hospitals, with the Ministry of Health to take care of operations and clinical services.

The distribution of the concessions across the country is as follows:

  • Biobío Region (central Chile) - four hospitals, total investment of CLP252.6 billion (US$363.8 million)
  • Coquimbo (central-north) - two hospitals, CLP429.2 billion (US$618.2 million)
  • Los Ríos (central) - three hospitals
  • Maule (central) - three hospitals, CLP234.3 billion (US$337.5 million)
  • Metropolitan (central-north) - four hospitals, CLP525.3 billion (US$756.6 million)
  • O’Higgins (central) - two hospitals, CLP99.4 billion (US$143.2 million)

The hospitals in the Metropolitan Region include a National Cancer Institute and National Institute of Neurosurgery.

The terms of prequalification will be published on 21 January 2019, after which a special international register will open. The deadlines to apply to participate in the tenders for the concessions will vary, expiring 60 days before the date set for the reception and opening of technical offers for each one of the projects.

In order to make the tenders as attractive and competitive as possible, there is not expected to be any limits on the number of concessions that one company or consortia can bid for.
