Canadore College has launched a tender process to seek a private partner to develop a student housing P3 project in North Bay, Ontario (Canada).
The private developer will Design, Build, Finance, and Operate the residential components of The Village Living Wellness and Learning Centre
The centre will house Canadore College's School of Health, Human Care and Wellness, as well as support services for students and a recreational space. The centre will also provide space for learning from other professions, encouraging diverse, flexible and collaborative learning.
The overall cost to complete this project is approximately CAD12.5 million (US$9.3 million), and includes CAD5.6 million (US$4.2 million) from Canada’s Strategic Investment Fund, CAD0.8 million (US$0.6 million) from Ontario, and CAD4 million (US$3 million) from Canadore College.
The funding from the Government of Canada is being allocated through the Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund, which will enhance and modernize research facilities on Canadian campuses and improve the environmental sustainability of these facilities.
Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science, said:
“Encouraging scientific awareness in Ontario and across Canada depends on supporting our world-class scientists and researchers. Through investments such as those under the Strategic Investment Fund, we are continuing to lay the groundwork for making Canada a global leader in scientific excellence.”
George Burton, president and CEO of Canadore College, stated:
“Canadore College is very grateful for the federal government’s leadership in creating the conditions for advancing innovation, entrepreneurship and talent through its support of applied education. We also acknowledge the government’s unwavering support towards developing a multi-disciplinary approach to health, human care and wellness. Our holistic approach to combine Indigenous, Eastern and Western practices in a single setting would not be possible without its contributions.”
As we reported previously, the College issued a request for expressions of interest (RFEOI) in 2014 and again in 2015 to develop a multi-purpose sports facility through a PPP project.
