The consortium chosen to build, operate and maintan the Port Mann Bridge is struggling to raise money for the project, and has told the B.C. government it needs more time before it can finalize a deal.The group, called BC Connect, includes Australia's Macquarie Group; U.S.-based Transtoll Inc., Flatiron Constructors Canada Ltd., a subsidiary of a U.S. company; and Metro Vancouver's Peter Kiewit Sons Co. It has been said that more than two dozen banks met last month to assemble $2.3 billion in debt for the project. It said the deal was supposed to close by Jan. 8 but it hsn't been affected yet. BNP Paribas, Caja Madrid, Royal Bank of Scotland, and Société Générale are known to be the major lenders.2. It has been released the three consortiums shortlisted for the South Fraser Perimeter Road ( for the contract to design, build, finance and maintain the road, a C$800m scheme). Fraser Transportation Group - includes Iridium Concesiones de Infraestructuras, S.A.of Spainand Zachry American Infrastructure of Texas as equity partners and Dragados S.A.as the lead design build contractor.South River Connector - includes Babcock & Brown Public Partnerships Limited Partnership and Bilfinger Berger Project Investments Inc. as equity partners, with Peter Kiewit Sons Co. and PCL Consultants Westcoast Inc. as the design build contractors.The Riverway Partnership - includes the Spanish firm of Cintra Concesiones de Infraestructuras de Transporte, S.A. and the Canadian firm of SNC-Lavalin Inc. as equity partners, with Ferrovial Agromà n, S.A. of Spain and locally based SNC-Lavalin Constructors (Pacific) Inc. as design build contractors.Cintra, the toll-road operator controlled by Spanish construction company Grupo Ferrovial SA, said its Toronto unit will issue $500 million of bonds to refinance debt of the 407 ETR highway in Toronto.
