Brasil Port Logistica Offshore e Estaleiro Naval Ltda has achieved commercial closure on a terminal concession at the Port of Açu in Brazil.
The terminal concession is located in the municipality of São João da Barra in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, approximately 150 km from the Campos basin.
Brasil Port Logistica Offshore e Estaleiro Naval Ltda is majority owned by a subsidiary of Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO). ECO has over 50 years of experience in the offshore supply sector and is one of the largest offshore supply vessel operators in the world.
The new terminal will have capacity to handle store 609,000 tones of general cargo. The port is expected to move 27,000 tons of dry bulk cargo and 243,000 m3 of liquid bulk cargo per year. Additionally, the terminal will have an space to carry out upgrade and reparation works for vessels. The new terminal is expected to serve the offshore supply industry.
The total project investment is estimated at R$600 million (US$149.8 million). The investment is part of the government R$7.8 billion (US$1.95 billion) plan to upgrade and develop the national ports.
In January 2015, IFC disclosed that it is considering an approximately US$80 million A loan. IFC would also help raise the debt financing needed to complete the financing plan.
The new facility is expected to be operational by 2017.
