Locar Saneamento Ambiental Ltda. and Empresa Pernambucana de Engenharia e Construções Ltda. (EMPESA) have closed financing for a waste public private partnership contract in Paulista municipality, Brazil.

The R$34 million (US$9.7 million) project financing has been provided by Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES). The financing amounts to 70% of the total project investment, which is R$48.6 million (US$13.8 million).

The project involves the provision of collection and disposal of solid waste, remediation and closure of municipal landfill, implementation and operation of a transfer station, operation of construction waste processing unit, operation of solid waste composting unit, as well as deployment and operation of  a wastewater treatment plant.

The term of the contract is 25 years and the total value for the contract is R$602 million  (US$172.1 million).
