BlackRock hires Abengoa CEO

BlackRock has hired Manuel Sanchez Ortega, who has left his position as CEO of Abengoa and has joined the New York-based firm's infrastructure investment group.

Manuel Sanchez Ortega is a qualified industrial engineer from the ICAI School of Engineering in Madrid and has graduated from the Senior Management Program at IPADE Business School in Mexico. He was CEO of Telvent (2001-2010), and in October 2010, he became CEO of Abengoa.

He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Global Business Initiative at the McDonough Business School at Georgetown University, Washington DC.

Mr. Sanchez started working at BlackRock on July 6th. He has been appointed as Managing Director and Head of Strategic Development and will report to Jim Barry, who heads the infrastructure investment group out of Dublin, Ireland.

He will oversee the company's business in Latin America, including the acquisition of the Infraestructura Institucional in Mexico, an agreement that BlackRock plans to close this year.
