Belo Horizonte receives proposals for convention center concession

The state of Minas Gerais (Brazil) has finally awarded the contract for the development of the Belo Horizonte Convention Center PPP project (Expominas II).

The winning bidder is the consortium composed of M. Roscoe Engenharia e Construções Ltda. and ELGLOBAL Construtora Ltda, which submitted a bid with a proposed project cost of BLR2.3 million (US$710,000) per year of concession.

The concession contract would involve the design, build, operation and maintenance of the convention center for a period of 40 years.

The project consists of a multipurpose exhibition centre with a total area of 34,000 square meters. The convention center will have 19,000 square meters with capacity for 6,000 people.

There were other bidding attempts in 2008 and 2015. However, the tenders did not attract any bidder.

The Development Bank of Minas Gerais SA (BDMG) was authorized to conduct feasibility studies to analyze the PPP model. BDMG hired Albino Advogados Associados and PricewaterhouseCoopers to support the development of the feasibility studies.
