Belo Horizonte delays submission of bids in health PPP project

The Municipality of Belo Horizonte in Minas Gerais (Brazil), through the Department of Health, has postponed for the second time the deadline to submit proposals for its health PPP project.

The previous deadline to submit proposals was February 25, 2015. In the first change the deadline was changed to April 13 and now the new deadline is 28 May. The first tender process for the project was launched in 2012, but it did not receive any proposals.

The project involves the reconstruction and construction of new units of the Network of Primary Health Care Centers and the 20-management of non-clinic services.

The concession has an estimated value over R$2 billion (US$685 million). The maximum annual payment is established at R$111.69 million (US$4 million).

We have recently reported that the Municipality of Contagem, in Minas Gerais, begun works to carry out feasibility studies for two possible PPP projects in the areas of education and health. The health PPP project would involve the management, modernization, operation and maintenance of Contagem's health system.
