Atlanta airport relaunches composting/recycling facility P3 project

The city of Atlanta in the USA has recently relaunched the tender process to carry out the Waste PPP project at Atlanta airport (Green Acres ATL Energy Park). This would be the fourth attempt at launching the project after other three fruitless tenders.

In April, we reported that Hartsfield-Jackson International launched a request for proposals (RFQ). Some companies as Randolph & Company Inc., Sun State Organics and Green Energy & Development submitted proposals for the project, but, according to sources, the firms incorrectly completed immigration compliance forms.

The airport is owned by the city of Atlanta and is operated by the Department of Aviation. It is located 10 miles south of downtown Atlanta on 4,750 acres. In 2015, the total passenger traffic serviced at the Airport was over 100 million, and it as been the world's busiest airport by passenger traffic since 1998.?

With this procurement, the city of Atlanta seeks a developer to design, construct, finance operate and maintain the Green Acres ATL Energy Park 3P project, which will occupy 30 acres of land. The developer will also sign a contract lease period with the city for 30 years with the option to renew the agreement.

With its development 90% of the domestic municipal waste produced at the airport will be re-purposed, reprocessed or recycled. Additionally, the facility also must be capable of re-purposing or recycling more than 19,000 tons of biomass collected by the city.
