Ardian announces Luton investment program

London Luton Airport has a recent announced remodeling plan valued at £110 million (US$157 million). Renovation work will consist of a major redesign that will increase the airport's capacity from 12 to 18 million passengers per year by 2020 and transform the user experience.

The key element of this project is the redesign of the terminal. This includes both an increase in the existing retail space, the security areas and road and rail transport links. As a result of all this expansion, the airport will increase its capacity to accommodate more airlines and routes.

London Luton Airport is one of the transport assets managed by Ardian through its infrastructure funds. Among others, Ardian also has infrastructure investments in France, Italy or Spain.

Mathias Burghardt, Head of Ardian Infrastructure, stressed:

"It is no longer for viable infrastructure assets to simply sit back and expect returns from their assets. That's why we take an active asset manager approach to our portfolio assets. Nowadays, transport users have multiple options, they can use several different airports or even the train to get to their destinations. This redevelopment at London Luton will position the airport as one of the leading transport hubs in London and will ensure its competitiveness by offering the best possible costumer experience ".

In August 2013, TBI, a company owned by Abertis (90%) and Aena Internacional (10%), agreed to sell the company holding the concession for London Luton Airport to a consortium formed by Aena (51%) and Ardian (49%). The enterprise value of the transaction is £433 million.
