AMP Capital announces new board member

Peter Varghese AO has been appointed to the AMP Capital Holdings Limited Board.

This follows Mr Varghese’s appointment as an independent director to the AMP Limited Board on 1 October 2016.

Mr Varghese has more than 38 years’ experience working in the public sector, which included senior positions in foreign affairs, trade policy and intelligence.

Mr Varghese recently retired as the Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was previously the High Commissioner to India, the High Commissioner to Malaysia and the Director-General of the Office of National Assessments. He was also a member of the Australia-China High Level Dialogue and the Minister (Political) at the Australian Embassy in Japan. In July, Mr Varghese became the Chancellor of the University of Queensland.

AMP Capital Holdings Board Chairman Vanessa Wallace said:

“Peter’s deep knowledge and broad set of skills will be a valuable addition to the AMP Capital Holdings board as the business continues to expand internationally. His experience in Japan and China is particularly relevant as we enhance AMP Capital’s strategic partnerships with MUTB and China Life and establish a greater presence in Asia.”
