The University of Almeria (UAL) has awarded the contract to develop an university student accommodation project through a concession contract in Almeria, in south Spain.
The tender process was launched last September. Finally the student accommodation PPP project has been awarded to a consortium formed by the Spanish companies Alberca, Inversol and Tejera. The team was the only bidder that submitted a final proposal on 10 December.
The project will be located close to the city center in a plot near the train station, the plot has a total area of 2,183 m². The new facilities will offer accommodation for 400 students. The building will have a minimum of seven floors and a maximum of eight floors.
The project will be developed on a design, build, finance, operation and maintenance (DBFOM) basis. The concession period is 40 years.
The winning consortium has estimated the total project investment at €8.45 million (US$10.5 million).
The project is expected to be operational by the end of 2017.
In early September we reported that the University of Cantabria also launched a tender process to develop a student housing through a concession contract in Santander, north Spain. The project would be developed on DBFOM basis and the total investment is estimated at €10 million. This project did not received any proposal.
