The government of Albania has launched the tender process for the development of an hydropower project on the Vjosa river under PPP scheme.
The hydro project, which will be located near the Kalivac village, in southern Albania, will involve the construction, operation and transfer of the facility including a dam. The concession period will run over 35 years.
The selection of the winning bidder shall be made based upon an open competition procedure, according to the specified qualifying and evaluating criteria. This criteria shall include proposed value of the concession fee, ecological and social impact, installed capacity of the plant, time necessary for the implementation of the project, scheme of the plant's connection with the power system and bidder's evaluation of the works which were already carried out.
Interested companies must apply before July 18.
Albania terminated a previous concession contract with Italian company BEG, whereby the company would build a 108 MW hydropower plant to be completed by 2012. The reason was some lawsuits with local subcontractors.
