Homes England has signed a collaboration agreement with developers Keepmoat and Capital&Centric, to accelerate the delivery of new homes and build a mixed-use town centre in Northstowe, Cambridgeshire, UK.
To ensure that locals have access to high-quality housing for purchase or rent, this agreement will allow the construction of 3,000 new homes, of which 50% will be affordable. A new town centre will also be built, offering locals and businesses up to 50,000 square meters of commercial space for businesses, shops, and community facilities. The town center's development is enabled by the infrastructure that Homes England has previously provided: roads, parks, bike lanes, public transportation lines, and schools. For the last two years of this thirty-year project, the Agency will serve as the master developer.
In its early stages of construction, Northstowe—built on the former RAF Oakington air base site—is home to about 3,000 people living in 1,400 dwellings. Along with elementary, special education needs, and secondary schools, the town also has a park and ride connecting it to Cambridge, a sports center, water parks, bike lanes and bridleways, and other amenities including playgrounds and allotments. A sixth-form college, an additional elementary school, and a second sports facility are now being built.
