In a recent video interview, Nathalie Gaullier, the label’s Global Programme Manager at the Global Infrastructure Basel (GIB) Foundation, shared important details about the critical role of infrastructure in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. She discussed the gaps in financing sustainable infrastructure projects and how the FAST-Infra Label aims to provide the solution to this issue.

The investment challenge
Nathalie highlighted the need for an annual investment of $6.3 trillion to meet the SDGs within the next decade. Essential goals such as providing clean water (SDG 6), sustainable energy (SDG 7), and resilient infrastructure (SDG 11) are currently underfunded, creating a significant gap that needs to be filled. This massive scale of investment is crucial for global progress towards these goals.
Understanding the FAST-Infra Label
The FAST-Infra Label plays a key role in overcoming investment barriers. It is a tool designed to streamline and secure investments by building on existing frameworks, making it easier to fund infrastructure projects, especially in emerging markets and developing economies. As Nathalie shared: “Currently, 70% of infrastructure investment occurs in developed countries, indicating a need to redirect funds towards areas and countries that are in dire need of development”.
Encouraging Sustainable Investments
The FAST-Infra Label helps reduce the perceived risks associated with investing in developing regions. It certifies projects that meet standards of sustainability, resilience, and regenerative capacity, thus attracting investors looking for viable and responsible opportunities.
