Abertis extends negotiations period to acquire Italian highways

Abertis has extended the negotiations period to acquire a 51% stake in the consortium A4 Holding, an industrial group which includes the A4 and the A31 Italian toll roads.

A4 Holding is being sold by Banca Intesa San Paolo, Astaldi and Tabacchi, which in total have a 51% stake in the company.

In August last year, Abertis signed an exclusivity agreement with the consortium A4 Holding. The contract had an exclusivity period until 31 December but this period was previously extended to March 31 and now the deadline has been established on April 22.

A4 Holding main assets are the following:

  • the Autostrada A4 toll road stretch that links Brescia and Padova. The stretch is part of a motorway that connects Turin and Trieste via Milan and Venice.
  • the Autostrada A31 toll road stretch that links Vicenza, Piovene Rocchette. The stretch is part of a motorway that connects the trunk road SS434 with the town of Piovene Rocchette. The A31 is interconnected with the A4  in the city of Vicenza.

The transaction is expected to be closed for approximately €600 million (US$683.3 million).

The deal confirms the strong pipeline of opportunities Abertis is working on for a global amount of €9 billion, as the company reported during the presentation of the last results.
