Aba Inland Container Depot to be developed

The government of Abia State, Nigeria, has announced plans to re-launched the development of the Aba Inland Container Depot (ICD) public private partnership (PPP) project.

Eastgate Inland Terminal Limited is the concessionaire of the project.

The PPP agreement between the two parties was signed in 2009. Under the agreement, the government will provide infrastructure and other logistics for Eastgate which will construct and operate the new facilities.

The project will be developed on build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis. The total project investment is estimated at N100 million (US$0.5 million).

The project is expected to ease off congestion at the Nigeria's ports as well as fast track clearing services to importers in the country.

Last month Nigeria's Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the development of the Ibom Deep Sea Port in Akwa Ibom State, paving the way for a PPP. The project aims to become a cargo gateway for central and eastern Nigerian markets and beyond.
