3i announces senior hire in its Infrastructure team

3i has announced the appointment of Daniel von der Schulenburg as Director in its Infrastructure business.

Daniel joined 3i on 18 July as a Director based in London and will have responsibility for origination and execution of investments across projects and economic infrastructure businesses, with a focus on the energy sector and German speaking region.

Daniel was most recently a Principal at Hudson Clean Energy Partners where he was part of the leadership team managing a global US$1.5 billion portfolio of private equity and infrastructure funds focused on renewable energy and energy efficiency. He also acted as the Program Manager and an Investment Committee member of the firm’s infrastructure fund.

3i’s Infrastructure business, which had assets under management of approximately £2.4 billion (US$3.2 billion) as at 31 March 2016, invests in economic infrastructure businesses and greenfield projects and manages a portfolio of operational PPP projects.

Since 31 March 2016, the 3i team has advised 3i Infrastructure plc on four new investments:

  • £75 million (US$99 million) investment in Wireless Infrastructure Group, the second largest independent communications infrastructure provider in the UK;
  • €200 million (US$223 million) investment in TCR, Europe’s largest independent asset manager of airport ground support equipment;
  • €5million (US$5.6 million) commitment to the Hart van Zuid greenfield PPP project in the Netherlands; and
  • €69 million (US$77 million) investment in Valorem, a leading independent renewable energy development and operating company in France.

Ben Loomes and Phil White, Managing Partners and Co-heads, Infrastructure, 3i Investments plc, commented:

“Following the continuing strong performance of 3i’s Infrastructure business, we continue to see good opportunities for new investments, including in the energy sector. We are therefore delighted that Daniel is joining our team. He brings substantial experience and knowledge in this area and we look forward to working with him.”
