The Pune Metropolitan Planning Committee (PMPC) wants the Chakan and Rajgurunagar where the proposed international airport is likely to come up to be included in the metropolitan region.The committee also pitched for the inclusion of Daund, about an hour's journey by train from Pune, in the metropolitan region. Almost 15 years ago a suitable site had been selected at Chakan and cleared by all ministries, but the acquisition of requisite land could not take place due to opposition from local farmers and the mountainous terrain.
