Companhia Brasileira de Trens Urbanos (CBTU) was created on February 22, 1984, linked to the National Transport Secretariat of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, in the form of a mixed-capital company, a subsidiary of the Federal Railways Network (RFFSA), with the mission to modernize, expand and implement passenger transport systems on rails, operating those under the administration of the Federal Government, aiming to increase the mobility of the population and contribute to the development of the productive sectors of society and to the improvement of the quality of life in the urban centers.
