Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB)

Company description

The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) is a federal Crown corporation that invests in revenue-generating infrastructure projects that are "in the public interest" by catalyzing private investment through methods such as direct investment and public-private partnerships. The CIB was established in 2017 with an initial capital of US$35 billion, which has since been increased to US$50 billion. The CIB's priorities are to:

  • Support economic growth and job creation by investing in infrastructure projects that will generate economic activity.
  • Improve the quality of life for Canadians by investing in infrastructure projects that will improve public transit, make communities more connected, and address climate change.
  • Attract private investment by providing financing and expertise to help get new infrastructure projects built.

The CIB invests in a wide range of infrastructure projects, including:

  • Green infrastructure such as renewable energy projects, energy efficiency projects, and public transit projects.
  • Clean power projects such as hydroelectric power projects, wind power projects, and solar power projects.
