Founded in 1976, by Sunil Bharti Mittal, Bharti has grown from being a manufacturer of bicycle parts to one of the largest and most widely recognized business groups from India. Bharti has created businesses in telecom, digital infrastructure, space communications, financial services, real estate, manufacturing, hospitality and agri-processed foods. Bharti started its telecom business by launching mobile services with the brand name Airtel in Delhi (India) in 1995. Bharti Airtel has operations in 17 countries across Asia and Africa – India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Congo Brazzaville, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

The group offers – financial services across India and also serves customers through its processed foods business. The group has growing interests in other areas such as data centres, real estate, space communications, manufacturing and distribution of telecom / IT products.
